How 250↔3600 Stockfish plays

  • It counts every capture made so far, by either side. After an even number of captures — including none — it plays at 250 Elo. After an odd number it plays full-strength Stockfish 18.
  • So it starts the game at 250 Elo, and every capture on the board flips it.

How to beat 250↔3600 Stockfish

  • Your capture makes its reply full strength. Its own capture flips it back, so its next move after that is at 250.
  • A plain trade — you take, it takes back — leaves the count even and the bot weak for its next move.
  • Win material by captures it cannot answer with a capture: then it replies at full strength once, and the count stays odd until someone takes again.

Does promotion count as a capture?

No. It counts pieces missing from the board, and a promotion does not remove one.
